Realising that there were many ongoing local conversations about books, authors, writers and the arts in general, and more than ten book clubs in the community, a group of local residents felt that there would be an audience for a series of Sunday afternoon public conversations in Berry with well-known authors, as well as other cultural and public figures — the aim being to go beyond the standard interview to something deeper, a dialogue between friends.
Thus was born the not-for-profit Berry Conversations Inc. in 2016, with proceeds after expenses from each event being donated to local non-profit community organisations. In the first year these went to the Nowra East Public School for its library.
